Qualifications: All full-time second or third year law students. Students should have excellent academic credentials, good writing skills and basic knowledge of Federal Indian law.
Dates Available: Fall (August through December); Spring (January through April); Summer (May - August)
Overview: The internship is designed to give students the opportunity to gain firsthand experience in working on challenging projects and cases principally
involving issues of Federal Indian law. Interns work closely with attorneys in the Office of Tribal
Justice on a variety of diverse projects. Work may include legal research, drafting legal
memoranda, public policy development, citizen correspondence and briefs and written
discovery on a wide range of federal Indian law issues. Also, interns will have
the opportunity to attend Senate committee hearings, oral arguments before the
Supreme Court and other high level meetings with OTJ attorneys.
Salary: Volunteer (no compensation) or academic credit (to be decided by each school) only.
