Michael J. North, M.S., M.S.L.S., Head of Rare Books & Early Manuscripts


Michael North
Michael J. North is Head of the Rare Books & Early Manuscripts Section in the History of Medicine Division of the National Library of Medicine (National Institutes of Health), Bethesda, MD. He has a B.A. in Greek and Latin, an M.S. in Theoretical Linguistics, and an M.S. in Library Science with an emphasis on Book Arts. He has worked in special collections at Swarthmore College, Georgetown University, The New York Academy of Medicine, and The Grolier Club of New York. His publications include, Printed Catalogs of French Book Auctions and Sales by Private Treaty, 1643-1830, in the Library of the Grolier Club (2004). His interests include the history of printing and bibliography, the history of anatomy and anatomical illustration, ancient medicine, and the history of Quakerism.
