The following fuel layers for zones 29 and 30 were updated July 20, 2007 to reflect the changes made during our most recent fuel calibration exercise held in Rapid City, South Dakota: Canopy Bulk Density, Canopy Base Height, Canopy Cover, Canopy Height, 13 Anderson Fire Behavior Fuel Models, and 40 Scott & Burgan Fire Behavior Fuel Models. Users are strongly encouraged to use this updated version of the fuel suite.
posted 03-JUL-07 | Zones 29 & 55: A problem was identified with the following layers... |
A minor problem was recently identified with the Canopy Bulk Density and Canopy Base Height layers for mapping zones 55 and 29. Users are advised to delete any local copies of these two layers downloaded prior to July 3, 2007 and download the current versions. We regret any inconvenience this may have caused.
posted 31-MAY-07 | all western mapping zones: All updated fuel layers are available... |
All updated fuel layers for the western mapping zones are available as of May 31, 2007. These updates were conducted to: 1) implement all refinements identified during the calibration workshops, 2) update the fuel layers in response to planned revisions of vegetation products, 3) include data from more plots in the formulation of canopy fuel products, 4) include key deciduous species in the formulation of canopy fuel products, and 5) leverage a new exotics data product to identify annual grasses pervasive throughout much of the western United States.

A problem was recently identified with the Fire Regime Condition Class Departure Index (dep) layer for Mapping Zone 99. Processing of this layer for Zone 99 was incomplete, leaving many of the pixels unassigned. Users are advised to delete any local copies of this layer for Zone 99 and download the updated version as of November 17, 2008. We regret any inconvenience this may have caused.

posted 03-JAN-07 | Zone 13: A problem was identified with the Succession Classes layer... |
A problem was recently identified with the Succession Class layer from Mapping Zone 13. Small residual errors from data processing resulted in a slight difference in the Biophysical Setting layer used to create the Succession Class layer as well as the version of the Biophysical Setting layer released for download. These differences could result in errors in calculating local measurements of Fire Regime Condition Class with the FRCC Mapping Tool. Customers are advised to delete any local copies of this Succession Class layer downloaded prior to January 1, 2007 and download the current version. We regret any inconvenience this may have caused.

posted 20-MAY-08 | Zones 25, 26, 27, 29, 30, 33, 34, 37, 44, 45, 55, 56, 58, and 98: A problem was identified with the relative age setting in the VDDT models... |
Relative age was not set correctly in the VDDT models in the following eastern zones when they were first made available for download from www.landfire.gov: 25, 26, 27, 29, 30, 33, 34, 37, 44, 45, 55, 56, 58, and 98. Relative age, according to LANDFIRE modeling rules, should be set to the inverse of the end age of the class (for example, if the class end age is 10 and relative age is used, it should be set to -10). In the aforementioned zones, relative age was set to the class end age rather than the inverse of the class end age. In some cases, an incorrect relative age setting could change the model results. The LANDFIRE team has corrected the relative age issue and redelivered corrected files. For zone 25 a new version of the model description document was released to correct inaccurate descriptive information related to this issue. For all other zones, only the VDDT database was changed. The error in the relative age setting did not affect any of the mapped products. Customers are advised to delete any local version 1 databases (that is, those that have "v1" in the file name) they may have downloaded and replace them with the version 2 databases (those that have "v2" in the file name) currently available from the LANDFIRE website.
