The LANDFIRE Project is sponsored by the Wildland Fire Leadership Council (WFLC). The council is a cooperative interagency organization dedicated to achieving consistent implementation of the goals, actions, and policies in the National Fire Plan and the Federal Wildland Fire Management Policy. The LANDFIRE Project will continue from FY04 through FY09, with expenses apportioned between the Forest Service (60%) and Department of Interior bureaus (40%).
WFLC is responsible for:
- Providing project funding
- Advocating with departmental executives, Office of Management and Budget, and Congress
- Supporting incorporation of LANDFIRE data products into agency business practices
- Providing direction for LANDFIRE and related initiatives
- Ensuring staffing
- Approving and signing the project charter
- Endorsing the membership of the Executive Oversight Committee and supporting its oversight of the LANDFIRE Project
