Chairman: John Turley
President | Middleton Geothermal Services

John TurleyJohn Turley is President of Middleton Geothermal Services in Akron, Ohio, a leader in the Midwest in geothermal testing, designing and installation of commercial applications. Middleton has been designing and installing commercial geothermal projects since 1994 when they completed their first system for First Energy Corporation. Since then, Middleton has over 50 geothermal projects to their credit, representing thousands of tons of capacity. Turley has a BA in Business Economics from the College of Wooster and an MS in Mineral Economics from Penn State University. Previous to Middleton he was a consultant in the Houston office of Data Resources, Inc., working with customers in the electric utility and oilfield services industries. Turley is currently serving on IGSPHA’s advisory board and is an IGSHPA Accredited Geothermal Installer and Trainer and an IGSHPA/AEE Certified Geothermal Designer. top

Retired picture of Larry Eitelman| FHP Bosch Group

Larry Eitelman graduated from Oklahoma State University May 1958. He was a design engineer for shell and tube heat exchangers and air-cooled heat exchangers for 23 years. He joined McElroy Manufacturing 1982 as sales engineer for fusion equipment and polyethylene pipe for earth coupled water source heat pumps. Eitelman also was responsible for instruction of field installation of earth loops and design assistance to customers utilizing Phillips Driscopipe and McElroy fusion equipment. He joined FHP Manufacturing (now FHP Bosch Group) in 1993 as Utility and Government Relations person. He has recently retired but remains active with IGSHPA as an IGSHPA Accredited Trainer and Certified Geoexchange Designer.

Executive Director | International Ground Source Heat Pump Association

picture of Jim BoseJim Bose is the Director of the Division of Engineering Technology at Oklahoma State University. Bose has research interests in energy conservation and specifically ground-source heat pump technology. He has been principal investigator on a number of private and government contracts, including the Electric Power Research Institute, the National Rural Electric Cooperative Association, the American Society of Heating Refrigeration and Air-Conditioning Engineers, the Department of Energy, the Oklahoma Department of Commerce and others. He has traveled in conjunction with the International Energy Agency (IEA) to China, Sweden, and Austria in promoting ground source heat pump technology. He authored several design and installation manuals for ground-source heat pump systems. He is active in the International Ground Source Heat Pump Association and serves as the Executive Director. He works extensively with research agencies, manufacturers and contractors, and lectures extensively on energy conservation and the benefits of ground source heat pump systems.

Marketing Technical Services Manager | East Kentucky Power Cooperative

Billy AbnerBilly Abner has served on the IGSHPA Advisory Board since 1998. He has 31 years of experience in the electric utility industry and is the marketing technical services manager for East Kentucky Power Cooperative. Abner has a Bachelor of Science in industrial technology and also is a licensed Master HVAC contractor. He spent 10 years working in the engineering, transmission and substation areas as an engineering substation inspector technician. He has been involved in marketing and customer service areas of wholesale and retail power since 1983. Abner has extensive knowledge of energy usage in the residential, commercial and industrial markets. He serves on the Kentucky School Plant Management Advisory and as chairman of the Powell County Tourism Association. He is a member of Air Conditioning Contractors of America and the National Home Builders Association, and is involved in numerous national, state and local organizations.

Trey Austin
Vice President and Director of Engineering | Geo-Energy Services

Trey Austin
Austin began his interest in geothermal technology as a graduate student at Oklahoma State University where his research focused on in-situ testing. Since that time he has gone on to design and consult on projects domestically and internationally. His expertise focuses on energy analysis and optimization of HVAC design, operation, and commissioning and integrating technology specific solutions. In 2006, he joined forces to create an engineering design firm dedicated to the GHP technology. Austin is well known for his passion for sustainable projects and specifically GSHP applications. His project experience ranges from homes and businesses to eco-tourism and beyond. He lives and plays in Colorado with his amazing wife, Dusti, and three beautiful children.

David R. Dinse
Project Manager | Tennessee Valley Authority

photo of david dinseDavid Dinse has been employed at the Tennessee Valley Authority since 1981 as an R&D project manager and project engineer. He is the Tennessee Valley Authority’s leading technical authority on geothermal heat pump technology. Since 1995 he has been a vital member of the TVA team responsible for TVA’s highly successful promotion of geothermal heat pumps in schools and other commercial buildings. He has directed TVA’s research on geothermal HP performance in commercial buildings for over 12 years.

He has been a very active ASHRAE Member at the chapter (President), region and national levels. Since 1994, he has served in various capacities on ASHRAE technical committee 6.08, Geothermal Energy Utilization and has received several ASHRAE awards including the 2007 Distinguished Service Award.

Daniel L. Ellis
President | ClimateMaster, Inc.

Dan EllisDan Ellis has been active with water-source heat pump technology since 1978. He was one of the pioneers of closed-loop geothermal heat pump applications in Northern climates. Ellis co-founded WaterFurnace International, Inc., where he was instrumental in the organization’s growth until his departure in 1995 as the company’s President and CEO. His technical contributions to the industry include the development of residential energy analysis and system design software, design procedures for commercial geothermal systems, and development of the industry’s first line of advanced technology water-source heat pumps. Ellis was integral to the lobby effort in Washington, D. C., to fund the Geothermal Heat Pump Consortium. Ellis is involved in the International Standards Organization (ISO) and is a past chairman and current member of the IGSHPA Advisory Council.

Jack Henrich

Jack Henrich
Jack Henrich has a bachelor of science in mechanical engineering. He has been with Bergerson-Caswell, Inc. since 1968 and is currently president. His certifications include: NGWA - Master Ground Water Contractor, IGSHPA - Accredited Installer, and IGSHPA/GHPC/AEE - Certified GeoExchange Designer. Henrich is a member of the IGSHPA Advisory Council, a director for the National Ground Water Association, and a past president of the Minnesota Water Well Association.

Tim Hughes
Manager of Product Support | Trane

Tim Hughes has been employed with Trane since 1991. Hughes attended Trane’s Graduate Engineer Training program in 1991. He spent 8 years in various marketing related positions within Trane’s Design and Energy Analysis software department, Large-tonnage Centrifugal and Absorption Chiller products and Central Station Air Handling Systems. In 1999 he moved to Waco, Texas and was Marketing Manager for Trane Water-Source Heat Pump and Classroom Unit Ventilator products. In 2002, Hughes became the Manager of Product Support for Trane’s Global Unitary Systems which includes Water-Source Heat Pumps, Fan Coil and Unit Ventilators, Variable Air Volume, Packaged Terminal, and terminal air handling products. Hughes serves on the IGSHPA Advisory Council and the GHPC Board of Directors.

Mike Kapps
Vice President of Loop Operations | WaterFurnace International, Inc.

mike kappsKapps began his career in the geothermal heat pump industry in 1983 when he joined WaterFurnace as the General Manager of LoopMaster International Division. He left in 1997 to pursue other endeavors and then returned in 2005 as the Manager of Business Development of WaterFurnace Loop Services. In 2006, he earned his current position of Vice President of Loop Operations. In between stints at WaterFurnace, Kapps served as the General Manager of Precision Comfort Systems, one of WaterFurnace’s largest dealers in Westfield, IN. He also was the Director of Geothermal Market Development at a large geothermal heat pump manufacturer in which he traveled the world from Europe to Asia to discuss international opportunities for geothermal applications.

John Kelly
Executive Director | Geothermal Heat Pump Consortium, Inc.

John Kelly
John Kelly has over 20 years experience in the utility industry, including energy conservation, customer service and business development. He is executive director of the Geothermal Heat Pump Consortium. His other experience includes facilities engineering and federal go vernment contract negotiation. Kelly has a degree in engineering from the U.S. Air Force Academy and a Masters in Public Administration from the University of Colorado. He is a registered professional engineer in Colorado and New Mexico.

Morris Lovett
Senior Engineer | OGE Energy Corporation

Morris LovettMorris Lovett is a registered Professional Engineer and has been with OGE Energy Corporation for 12 years. He is currently the Senior Engineer for HVAC/R Commercial/Industrial Marketing. He is responsible for working with the architectural and engineering community, design education and studies for energy conservation and demand management. He has previous experience in Design/Operations Mechanical Engineering. Lovett serves on the International Ground Source Heat Pump Association’s Advisory Council.

picture of Phil SchoenPhil Schoen is the president and CEO of Geo-Enterprises, Inc., a company he founded specializing in the design and application of geothermal heating and cooling systems. Schoen has worked in the GHP industry for over 26 years and has been involved in the installation of thousands of GHP systems in the United States, Bermuda, Korea and Japan. He has designed and installed many different types of ground heat exchanger piping systems, including ones used for convenience stores, US Department of Defense projects, US Embassy housing, Indian Health Services hospitals, Indian gaming casinos and many different types of school campus buildings. From the ultra luxurious lodging of Bio-Grande at the El Monte Lodge of Taos, New Mexico to the new hospital for the Pawnee Nation in Pawnee, Oklahoma and US Embassy housing in Seoul, South Korea, Geo-Enterprises, Inc. is known world wide as a premier company in the GHP industry.

Chris SmithChris Smith is Vice President of Sales for FHP Bosch Group. He has been involved in the water source and geo-thermal industry since 1967. Prior to helping start FHP in 1970, he was with Climate Master Products. He graduated with a B.S. degree in Business Administration from Florida Atlantic University in 1969. He was past Chairman of IGSHPA from 1995 -1997, Vice Chairman prior to that and is currently on the board for the Geothermal Heat Pump Consortium.

Greg Wells
Geothermal Sales Engineer | Jackson & Sons Drilling/Geothermal

Greg Wells Greg Wells is a geothermal sales engineer for Jackson & Sons Drilling/Jackson Geothermal in Mansfield, Ohio. He is responsible for commercial sales, commercial field design and installation quality control. Jackson Geothermal has installed thousands of tons of vertical geothermal heat exchanger systems from coast to coast. Wells has 20 years of experience in the geothermal industry as an electric utility representative, a territory manager for a geothermal heating and cooling manufacturer, a general manager of a large geothermal installation company, prior to being employed at Jackson Geothermal. Wells is currently serving on IGSHPA’s Advisory Council, is an IGSHPA accredited installer and trainer and an IGSHPA/AEE Certified GeoExchange Designer.
