Research Project: FLAVOR QUALITY EVALUATION OF STRAWBERRY BREEDING LINES

Objective:
To evaluate field and postharvest quality characteristics of new lines of strawberries specifically bred for Florida conditions in order to produce improved cultivars.

Approach:
New strawberry hybrids are being bred by a university breeder. Hybrids will be evaluated for plant characteristics, field performance, sensory quality and, in some cases, levels of flavor compounds such as sugars, acids and aroma volatiles, as well as color.
