August 23, 1993: Washington, D.C. -- Office of Personnel Management Director Jim King today announced the names of 12 local campaigns that will receive awards during the Second Annual Combined Federal Campaign National Recognition Program. The awards are given for the increased participation and charitable donations of federal employees, servicemen and women, and postal employees. [News Release]

August 11, 1993: Washington, D.C. -- The Office of Personnel Management today announced that servicemen and women who provided humanitarian assistance in Somalia and nearby regions during Operation Restore Hope are eligible for veterans preference in federal employment. Eligibility for veterans preference entitles individuals to five additional points in their overall ranking, guaranteed placement on hiring registers, and extra protection during reductions-in-force (RIFs).
