LORRAINE A. GREEN TO BE SWORN IN AS DEPUTY DIRECTOR
OF THE U.S. OFFICE OF PERSONNEL MANAGEMENT

Washington, D.C. -- Lorraine A. Green will be sworn in as Deputy Director of the U.S. Office of Personnel Management on Tuesday, August 24. The ceremony will be conducted at 8:30 a.m. in D.C. Superior Court, Room 3300, 500 Indiana Avenue, NW, Washington, DC.

President Clinton nominated Ms. Green in April as OPM Deputy Director. The U.S. Senate confirmed the nomination on Friday, August 6.

"The field experience, technical know-how and commitment to excellence Ms. Green has demonstrated will serve her well at OPM," said President Clinton in announcing Ms. Green's nomination on April 6.

Since 1991, Ms. Green has been the Director of the D.C. Office of Personnel (DCOP) where she was the principal advisor to the Mayor on all aspects of Human Resource Management. In that position she has been credited with establishing and implementing the Annual Leave Bank; family friendly initiatives; developing and implementing a comprehensive Employee Assistance Program; and providing for the automation of the District's personnel system.

Prior to her work in the personnel function, she was the Executive Director of the D.C. Lottery and Charitable Games Control Board. It was during Ms. Green's tenure that the D.C. Lottery and Charitable Games Control Board held the distinction of being the most efficiently run lottery in the United States.

Ms. Green has received numerous awards and citations for her outstanding work and is a member of several professional and civic organizations, including the Local Government Personnel Association, the National Association of State Personnel Executives, and the National Forum for Black Public Administrators.

She is a native Washingtonian and a graduate of the D.C. Public Schools. She attended Howard University, and has completed advanced training through many government courses. Ms. Green has been married for 23 years and is the mother of a 21 year-old-son and a 13 year-old-daughter.
