Chicago RCFL

  April 19, 2007 - Illinois Mayor Faced Additional Charges  The long-time mayor of Niles, Illinois, Nicholas Blase, was arrested by the FBI on June 8, 2006 and charged with fraud and taking bribes in exchange for pressuring businesses to buy insurance policies. Blase has denied any wrongdoing – vowing to stay in office despite his indictment. The charges were brought after federal authorities conducted an exhaustive covert investigation – tracing illegal activity involving the mayor back to 1989. Blase has served as Niles mayor, a suburb of 30,000 north of Chicago, for over 45 years...

Heart Of America RCFL

  April 25, 2007 - HARCFL Supporting Murder and Kidnapping Investigation  The Heart of America RCFL (HARCFL) is providing digital forensics expertise to investigators for a series of horrific crimes allegedly committed by Richard Davis, 42 and Dena Riley, 40. The pair were arraigned on May 30, 2006 and charged with capital murder, first-degree assault, kidnapping, forcible rape and forcible sodomy in the death of Marsha Spicer. Ms. Spicer’s body was discovered in a shallow grave east of Kansas City on May 15, 2006. Police initially interviewed the suspects about the murder, but they fled before authorities could obtain a warrant to search their home...

New Jersey RCFL

  December 18, 2008 – Former Assemblyman Indicted Neil M. Cohen, a former New Jersey assemblyman, was indicted on charges of official misconduct and for allegedly using computer equipment in his government office to view and print images of child pornography.   New Jersey RCFL Helps Expose School Bombing Hoax Investigators are still trying to determine why a minor from New Jersey posted an online threat against the student body of Ashbrook High School in Gastonia, North Carolina. What authorities do know, thanks in part to the computer forensics experts from the New Jersey RCFL (NJRCFL), is the identity of the sender. Investigators also know the threat was nothing more than an empty threat. Read more.

Northwest RCFL

  Camp Counselor Information Sought November 5, 2008 - The Washington County Sheriff's Office (WCSO), a participating agency in the Northwest RCFL (NWRCFL) is asking the public for information about an Aloha, Oregon man who allegedly showed pictures of child pornography to youngsters at a Salem computer camp where he worked as a counselor. North Texas RCFL

  NTRCFL FINDINGS HELP SECURE INDICTMENT FOR PLANO STEP-DAD The North Texas Regional Computer Forensics Laboratory (NTRCFL) is assisting the Plano Police Department with an investigation involving Eric Carlyle Russell, 37, who was indicted on July 19 for improper photography or visual recording of his stepdaughter and another underage girl. According to press reports and court documents, Russell allegedly hid a wireless camera in his stepdaughter’s bathroom wall, which was later discovered by a relative who called police.   Dix Trial Jury Begins Deliberations - The jury deciding the fate of five foreign-born Muslim men accused of plotting to attack Fort Dix and murder American soldiers, completed their first full day of deliberations on December 17, 2008.   One of the most powerful lawmakers in Pennsylvania, State Senator Vincent J. Fumo, was recently indicted on a slew of federal charges. Rocky Mountain RCFL

  2008 - Laptop Computer Offers Clues in Missing Persons Investigation— Missing persons Jennifer Marcum, Kaysi McLeod, Terry Kimball, and Leann Emry had but one thing in common – Scott Lee Kimball. Kimball, authorities believe, is connected to their disappearance, and is jailed on unrelated charges. Only remains of Kaysi McLeod, 19, have been found. The RMRCFL examined Kimball’s laptop computer and located information about three of the four missing persons, along with violent images of sexually related acts. The investigation is ongoing.

San Diego RCFL

  December 18, 2008 – Teenager Accused of Murder Will Face Charges as an Adult- A 15-year old girl accused of killing her mother will stand trial as an adult. The San Diego RCFL is supporting the investigation – click here for the full story.
