Exchange Network Program Status
Active Partners
The Exchange Network has grown since its inception in 2002. This Web page explains the partner status, uses and benefits of the Exchange Network, and defines the data exchanges in which partners are participating.
- On August 29, 2007, Rhode Island became the 50th state to join the Exchange Network!
- On August 17, 2007, the Samish Indian Nation successfully joined the Exchange Network as the first tribal organization to deliver water quality monitoring data to the Pacific NW Water Quality Data Exchange. The Samish Indian Nation is the seventh tribal nation and 56th partner to join the Exchange Network.
- On July 16, 2007, the Yurok Tribe became the Exchange Network's sixth tribe and 55th partner by exchanging Water Quality Exchange data with the EPA.
- The Shoshone and Northern Arapaho was the Exchange Network's fifth tribal partner by exchanging Water Quality Exchange data with EPA. Also known as the Wind River Environmental Quality Commission, this tribe was the first tribal partner to exchange water data.
- The Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community was the Exchange Network's fourth tribe to exchange Facility Registry System (FRS) data with EPA.
- On April 18, 2007, Louisiana became the 49th state Network partner when the Node began flowing Facility Registry System (FRS) data with EPA.
- On February 22, 2007, Connecticut became a Network partner when the state Node began flowing Facility Registry System (FRS) data with EPA.
- By the end of 2006, the Exchange Network had 47 states and 2 tribal Nodes operating.
- The Navajo Nation is the Exchange Network's first Tribal Nation to exchange data in 2007. The Yurok Tribe is the fourth tribe to exchange data in 2007.
- Currently, there are 57 partners interacting on the Exchange Network.
Uses
The Exchange Network is an Internet-based system providing partners with the ability to access, submit and share electronic information by connecting data through Nodes and Web forms. Partners use the Exchange Network to:
- Submit required data to the EPA.
- Gather data to make informed decisions.
- Reduce partner costs, save time, and overcome delays in data transmission.

- Biodiversity Data Exchange - partners include Delaware Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control, and NatureServe
- California Environmental Data Exchange System (CEDES) - partners include the California Environmental Protection Agency's Department of Water Resources and the State Water Resources Control Board
- California EPA Unified Program Agency Project - partners include 85 government agencies certified by the Secretary of California EPA
- California Pesticide-Related Illness Data Exchange - partners include California EPA Office of Environmental Health Hazard Assessment (OEHHA) and the Department of Pesticide Regulation
- Chesapeake Bay Program Regional Exchange for Best Management Practices (BMPs) - partners include Maryland, Virginia, Pennsylvania, and EPA Chesapeake Bay Program
- Electronic Drinking Water Reports (eDWR) - partnered with New Hampshire, Maine, New Jersey, Rhode Island, and Vermont
- Homeland Security Data Exchange - partners include Michigan Department of Environmental Quality and agencies from the states of Maine, New Hampshire, and New Jersey
- Kentucky Watershed Modeling Information Portal - partners include Kentucky State government, U.S. EPA Region IV, U.S. Geological Survey, and the Open GIS Consortium
- Minnesota Hydrographic Geospatial Data Project - partners include Minnesota's Pollution Control Agency, Department of Administration's Land Management Information Center and working through the Governor's Council on Geographic Information Hydrography Committee
- Northwest Air Quality Data Exchange - partners include the Washington Department of Ecology
- Oregon Air Quality Data Exchange - partners include the Oregon Department of Human Services
- Washington Fish Tissue Data Exchange - partners include Washington's Department of Health and Department of Ecology
