Shipping Info
How and When We
Deliver
We ship our bulbs and plants at the right time for planting in
your area,
with orders dispatched on a first-come, first-served basis
by climate
zone. Unless you specify
otherwise, fertilizers, tools, and other hard goods are
shipped with your
plants or bulbs.
Spring: We begin shipping the most cold-tolerant, dormant perennials and bulbs in early March
to Zones 7-9, with Zone 5 commencing in early April; less cold-tolerant
annuals and perennials start shipping in April, in the latter part of the
month to Zones 5 and 6. The season normally ends in mid-June: temperatures determine
the precise date.
We begin shipping Tuberous Begonias in later March to
all zones, because
these plants perform best if started early indoors.
Other shipping
times: Citrus
begins shipping
in mid-March, beginning with the warmest parts of the
country, weather permitting. Scented Geraniums and Tomato and Vegetable plants begin
shipping
in late April to the warmest zones. Garlic, Daffodils (The Works) and Tulips
are shipped in the fall.
Please also note that Gift Plants such as our Clivia, Orchids, Primrose, Lavender, Gardenia and other varieties of houseplants ship at varying times and as weather permits. Please refer to the sub-title
information under each of these for more information.
Fall: We ship our spring-flowering bulbs and fall catalogue plants at the right time for fall planting in
your area, with orders dispatched on a first-come, first-served basis
shipping to colder zones first beginning in early September.
Orienpet, Asiatic, Trumpet & Oriental Lilies for fall shipping only, begin shipping in mid to
late October. Species Lilies start shipping in mid to late September for fall shipping only. Tree Peonies, for fall shipping only,
must
be harvested late and therefore begin shipping in mid to
late October.
South African Amaryllis start shipping in early October; Paperwhites in late
September; Dutch Amaryllis in mid November. We prepare Lily-of-the-Valley
for forcing, so delivery begins in mid December, when the pips are ready to
produce flowers for you.
Your order may arrive in more than one shipment, but this will not affect shipping charges. If we have your e-mail address on file, we will notify you when your order is shipped from our Connecticut nursery.
If you have ordered fall-shipped bulbs, perennials, or other plants as a gift, we will send a gift card at the appropriate time that you request,
and will deliver the bulbs or plants at the right time for planting in the fall.
Clivia Krugerrand Strain, Lavender 'Goodwin Creek Grey' and Paperwhites begin shipping in late September. Clivia miniata starts
shipping in early October. The size of the plants we ship has been selected to reduce the shock of transplanting. For some, this means a large, bareroot
crown. Others cannot travel bareroot or transplant best if grown in containers. We ship these plants in 3" Plastic Pot - 25.8 cu. in., except as noted. We must point out that many perennials will not bloom the first year after planting, but will the following year, amply rewarding your patience. We ship bulbs as dormant, bare bulbs, sometimes with some wood shavings or moss. Shrubs, vines, and other woody plants may be shipped bareroot or potgrown. The size of the pot is noted in the individual descriptions. Our shipments may travel via UPS, which requires a street address for delivery,
OR by Priority US Mail, so please provide both street and postal addresses, if applicable. Large or heavy items are generally shipped via UPS. We ask that, when possible, you please provide an address where there is a daytime recipient available.
We cannot be responsible for delivery problems due to incorrect addresses. Please check that you have typed in the correct address and ZIP code.

When To
Order
We are pleased to accept orders until the last realistic
planting date
in your area. For northern gardeners in spring, this
generally means early
June, weather permitting. We encourage gardeners in the
South to order
early so we can deliver while nights are still cool. In the
fall, weather
permitting, we ship bulbs to Northern gardeners until early
November;
to warmer zones, through November. We cannot deliver any orders to
Alaska or Hawaii, and we cannot ship any orders
outside the U.S.
or to an APO/FPO address. (Back to
top.)
Our shipments may travel via UPS, which requires a street
address for delivery, OR by Priority US Mail, so
please provide
both addresses, if applicable. Large or heavy items are
generally shipped
via UPS. We ask that, when possible, you please provide an
address where
there is a daytime recipient available.
In the rare case when severe weather prevents timely
delivery of tender
plants intended as gifts, we will send an announcement of
your gift. We
cannot be responsible for delivery problems due to incorrect
addresses.
Additional charges apply for Express and Priority Shipping
per address. Product details
note any items that require additional lead-time or that can
only be shipped
Standard (ground delivery). (Back to top.)

Express, and Discover cards. On orders to Connecticut only,
delivery charges
must be added before sales tax is applied, as required by state
law.
