Rodent Import

As required by NIH policy, the DVR Rodent Import Officer (RIO) reviews applications for the introduction of rodents and rodent products from non-approved sources into NIH animal facilities based on the supportive evidence for absence of specific pathogenic agents.

When required, the RIO approves the designated quarantine location and release criteria for animals being introduced into NIH animal facilities. The RIO coordinates the use of the DVR Rodent and Rabbit Quarantine Facility at the NIH Animal Center or approves an alternate quarantine site.

The RIO also approves the introduction of rodent products for in vitro studies. For additional informaion, please refer to NIH Manual Issuance 3043-1.
