NASA SELECTS FIRMS FOR INNOVATIVE AND TECHNOLOGY TRANSFER PROJECTS

NASA selected 335 proposals from 251 firms for the 2005 Small Business
Innovation Research (SBIR) and Small Business Technology Transfer (STTR)
programs. The selections are for Phase 1 contract negotiations.

The goals of the SBIR program are to stimulate technological innovation,
increase the use of small businesses for meeting federal research and
development needs and to increase private sector commercialization of
innovations derived from federally funded research.

The goals of the STTR program are similar. Additionally, the STTR program
requires a collaborative research effort between a small business concern
and a research institution.

NASA evaluated more than 2,400 proposals submitted by U.S. owned small
businesses. Selected proposals may receive up to $70,000 for an SBIR
contract and up to $100,000 for an STTR contract.
