Structural & Architectural Design Section

Who We Are and What We Do

The Portland District Structural & Architectural Design Section consists of structural engineers and engineering technicians working together to provide solutions to engineering and architectural design challenges for the District and Region.

Section Level Functionality

Our specific functions vary widely, but include the following important responsibilities:

  • Perform the structural and architectural analysis of design, and prepare plans and specifications for construction and supply contracts. Serve as the CENWP structural engineering specialist with District elements, both Federal and non-Federal.
  • Manage the structural-architectural portion of plans and specifications prepared by CENWP, out of District, and A-E elements. Check plans and specifications for accuracy, intent of scope, contractor's biddability, and constructibility.
  • Prepare special studies, reports, design memorandums, contract estimates, quantity computations, and Operations & Maintenance manuals.
  • Manage A-E contracts and consultants.
  • Technically lead and manage product teams in support of Life Cycle Project Management.
  • Prepare inspection and evaluation of the structural integrity and dam safety of Civil Works Structures.
  • Perform independent technical review.

The Section offers a broad range of Civil Works engineering and design experience, coupled with a long successful history of working with other Corps resources (Districts, ERDC and HDC) and the Architectural-Engineering community.  The District currently has several multidisciplinary open-end contracts for engineering services.

Branch Level Functionality

The Structural & Architectural Design Section is part of the Design Branch, and we perform the tasks described above in support of the Design Branch mission of providing engineering services to support the District in the investigation, planning, design, construction, and operations & maintenance of Civil Works Projects.
