ME-16 tracking telescope


At KTF, specially trained operators use an SNL-designed Newtonian tracking telescope to track targets from 1,000 to 100,000 yards. The
16 in. aperture telescope provides high resolution, resulting in very clear images at long distances.

ME-16 Features

  • Focal length of 117.5 in. and reflecting mirror diameter of 16 in.
  • High-speed Phantom V9 & V10 digital cameras (10 to 1000 frames/s)
  • DVCAM image recording using a KY27-B video camera
  • Computer-controlled focus and tracking of nominal trajectory
  • Manual tracking using joystick control
  • GPS real-time system for precise timing of mission liftoff
  • Can be operated using a self-contained diesel generator or utility-supplied 208 VAC 3-phase power
  • Mobile capability for land or sea-based operations.
