Goals and objectives
The student will understand the maternal and fetal consequences, methods and limitations of screening, and understand diabetes in pregnancy.
Objectives
The objectives for this module are:
- The student will understand the maternal and fetal consequences of diabetes in pregnancy.
- The student will understand the methods and limitations of diabetes in pregnancy.
- The student will understand the management of diabetes in pregnancy.
Case scenario
Sophie Kanulie is a 38-year old G8P7006 who presents for prenatal care at 24 weeks gestation by her dates. Her obstetric history is significant for three prior infants who weighed over 9 pounds. Her last pregnancy resulted in the vaginal delivery of a 10 pound 8 ounce stillborn. The patient relates that, after a difficult labor, the baby’s head came out, but the rest of the baby’s body couldn’t come out.
