Next Steps

Having completed the priority removal of contaminated PCB sediments from 0.83 acres along the shoreline of Bradford Island in October 2007, the Corps is continuing its Remedial Investigation and Feasibility Study to determine the nature and extent of remaining contamination on the island and in the river.

Additional sampling and analysis of clams and fish, sediment and soil, and water will take place in 2008.

Using data from these and previous samples, the Corps will conduct an assessment in 2009 to determine if there is additional risk to the area’s people and environment.

With the results from these and previous investigations, the Corps will develop and consider cleanup alternatives.  We anticipate presenting these alternatives and a recommended alternative for cleaning up the site in a Proposed Plan in 2010.
