3. Your Calcium Scorecard -- Using the "Calcium Scorecard", have the girls keep a one day food diary. They can fill in the %DV for calcium by looking at food labels at home or in the grocery store. Some restaurants also provide nutrition information. (They can also use the list in this leader's guide to find the %DV for calcium.) After the girls add up their calcium scorecard either in class or on their own, ask how many of them were able to reach 120% DV. Ask them which foods they ate to reach this goal. Ask the girls who did not reach 120%DV what foods they might want to add to boost their "DV score".

Choose one girl to write down the group's favorite foods on a blackboard or a flip chart. Get the other girls to look up the %DV calcium from the sources above and other sources available and write them down. If some favorite foods do not provide much calcium, ask the girls to think of acceptable substitutes and check for the %DV calcium for these foods. Leave the lists with the %DV in the room for at least a month to reinforce this message.
