REACH is a major overhaul of the European Union's chemical management regime and extends to products made with chemicals and having chemicals in their components as well as chemicals producers. 

The EU's REACH pre-registration deadline is December 1, 2008, so it is important to prepare now. REACH compliance will be key to avoid trade disruptions and to remain present and competitive in the EU market.

MANDATORY ELECTRONIC SED FILING, EFFECTIVE OCT. 1

The U.S. Census Bureau has issued the final rule, which requires mandatory filing of export information through the Automated Export System (AES) or through the AES Direct for all shipments where a Shipper’s Export Declaration (SED) is required. ONLINE GUIDE TO FOREIGN TRADE REGULATIONS

The U.S. Census Bureau has published a useful online guide to the Foreign Trade Regulations that may help to answer many of those “technical” questions that come up. The guide is helpful in understanding rules and requirements under the Electronic Export Information filing system that has replaced the Shipper’s Export Declarations.
