The term “huckleberry” is used by most people to identify some type of wild blueberry. Common to the Pacific
Coast and inland coniferous forests from Northern California to Alaska, huckleberries have a long history of use
with native inhabitants as an important source of food, drink, and deeply colored dyes.
Evergreen Huckleberry
These selected clones grow well in sun or shade with
deep green foliage and large dark blue fruit. Growth is compact to 5 to 6 feet.
Red Huckleberry
Red huckleberry is a delightful landscape subject for shade
gardens here in the West. The light green lacy leaves form a perfect backdrop to the bright red semi-tart fruit. Once used
as the original “salmon egg” bait in the rivers and streams, these deciduous shrubs are varied in habit from compact to
more open, eventually reaching 6-8 feet if left unattended. Seedling grown.
