MSU researcher to study social aspect of deadly disease
CANR professor of entomology, Rich Merritt, who studies the causes and transmission routes of Buruli ulcer, a disfiguring tropical disease, is studying the social impacts of the disease and the affect of this stigma on the lives of thousands of people. Working with a $143,000 grant from the McCord Research Foundation, he will also develop education and family support programs aimed at teaching families how to identify and seek medical intervention for the ulcer in its early stages.
