One
of the most important services that the American Association
of Meat Processors provides for its members is help with
regulatory and legislative affairs. The meat industry is
on of the most heavily regulated in the United States. It
must operate under a maze of laws and regulations set by
Congress, the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA), the
Food and Drug Administration (FDA), the Food Safety &
Inspection Service (FSIS), the Occupational Safety and Health
Administration (OSHA), the Department of Labor (DOL), including
employment regulations (ELAWS), and the Environmental Protection
Agency (EPA). AAMP provides its members with government
representation, help with legislation and regulations that
affect daily operations. AAMP also involves its members
in testifying in front of Congressional committees and regulatory
boards, including the House Agriculture Committee (HAC)
and the Senate Agriculture Committee (SAC). |
