History of Sioux Corporation

Sioux Motor Cleaner Manufacturing was founded in 1939 in Beresford, SD. In 1965, the company was sold to John and Virginia Finger.

Sioux began designing machines for additional markets, adding new models with larger capacities and pressures, and improving product construction and performance. Sioux distributorships were established throughout the USA, and in several other countries.

On November 30, 1967, a fire burned the original Sioux building to the ground, the decision was made to rebuild, and the following May, Sioux began manufacturing from a new, modern facility. In 1989, Virginia Finger assumed the Presidency of Sioux, and John Finger became Chairman of the Board.

In April of 1995, Jack Finger, a registered engineer with degrees in electrical and mechanical engineering, returned to work at Sioux, after 20 years of experience as a Sales Engineer and District Manager in Los Angeles, and in Project Design and Construction Engineering in Nevada. Since that time, Sioux has value engineered nearly all product lines, providing more customer value at lower cost, meeting code requirements, and offering more features required for specific customer applications.

Sioux is one of the oldest manufacturers in this 1 billion dollar industry. The Sioux brand is well known for heavy-duty, reliable, application-specific steam cleaners and pressure washers. Sioux is recognized for extensive expertise in providing custom options and modifications, such as 50 Hz, 380 Volts, 415 Volts, 575 Volts, galvanized frames, customized trailer packages, custom designed skids, specialized water tanks, high altitude designs, low temperature designs, and electronic temperature controls.

The first units manufactured by Sioux in 1939 were used to clean automotive engines. Sioux later added cold-water pressure washers, then hot-water pressure washers. In the early 1960’s, Sioux built its first instantaneous water heater for a concrete batch plant in Iowa, which developed into an additional product line. Sioux added discharge and circulation pumps, water storage tanks, and control systems, and today is the number one brand in North America in instantaneous water heater systems for concrete batch plants, and the Precast concrete industry in North America. This product was modified and developed into another product line, the Solution Heater, which is used in mining of precious minerals, with hundreds of units in service in mining regions throughout North and South America.

During the 1960’s, Sioux was one of the first companies to produce a complete line of commercially-viable All-Electric steam cleaners and hot water pressure washers. This design is similar to a conventional hot water washer or steam cleaner, except the fuel-fired burner used to heat the water is replaced by electric resistance heating elements enclosed in a vessel. Sioux offers both standard and explosion-proof models, meeting UL, CSA, and NEC codes and standards. Sioux is recognized as the world leader in this product line, and offers custom packages used in offshore oil production, chemical and pharmaceutical plants, refineries, water treatment plants, manufacturing plants, surface and underground mining, and in numerous other applications where clean air is required, and sparks and exhaust fumes are detrimental.

Today, Sioux has a modern 50,000 square foot manufacturing plant and office facility on a 15-acre site in Beresford, SD. Beresford is a community of 2,000 people, located 25 miles south of Sioux Falls, a rapidly growing city which has been awarded “Top Ten Place to Live in the USA” numerous times in the past decade.

The Company has a strong Management Team, with extensive experience and capabilities in product engineering and custom designing. The sales and marketing group are organized to serve specific market sectors, and the financial group provides state of the art financial and accounting services to the Company. In addition, Sioux has a well-educated labor force with a strong work ethic, and strong local community support. In 2002, the Company implemented a state-of-the-art manufacturing and accounting software system. Sioux presently exports approximately 25% of production to over 70 countries throughout the world, and in 2003, Sioux was selected as the Small Business Exporter of the Year by the SD Small Business Administration.
