US Farm-Raised Catfish is the best as it's a certified fresh, high quality, clean and safe choice. Beware of cheap foreign catfish such as the Vietnamese Basa & Tra fish and the catfish farm-raised in China. There have been a vast multitude of quality issues with foreign catfish ranging from the use of banned antibiotics to raising them in over-crowded conditions and polluted waters. Just because a menu indicates catfish is farm-raised does NOT mean it's U.S. Farm-Raised Catfish. If you have any doubt as to the origin of catfish when dining out, be sure to ask your server!
Our internet searches have found the Vietnamese catfish to be marketed under more than 50 different names to conceal it's true identity! Recently we've even found this inferior catfish for sale as "striper" in a national specialty grocery store!

"Being a Tennessean, born and raised in the country, we LOVE our catfish! We now live in Nashville and our favorite place for catfish is the Catfish Kitchen (located on Hwy. 70 traveling west between Nashville and Dickson). Catfish Kitchen has the BEST hushpuppies ever! They serve vinegar slaw and white beans with the fish dinner along with all-you-can-eat hushpuppies. The catfish is filleted and you can get the hot & spicy version which is also delicious."

"Red" from Mississippi recently e-mailed us with a recommendation for the best catfish in Mississippi.
Here is what Red told us: "Taylor Grocery is an old grocery store that has been a fish house restaurant for years. It is just six miles south of Oxford, MS. The restaurant is only open four days a week and if you don't get there early you may not get a seat as the fish is that good! Also, it's a dry city with perhaps 200-300 people, so if you want a wine, bring your own."

Cajuns Cafe Now Open!

Cajuns Cafe recently opened for business in Avon, just west of Indianapolis, Indiana. Cajuns offers authentic New Orleans cuisine and proudly offers US Farm-Raised Catfish on their menu.
Cajuns has fried catfish Po' Boys, a fried catfsh platter (see photo below), Catfish Acadiana, and Catfish Pontchartrain. They also offer a fried seafood platter which includes fried catfish, shrimp, & crawfish tails with a cup of your favorite soup, french fries, hush puppies, and crabmeat augratin. Word of mouth has been spreading like wildfire about this place! Regular customers, Mark and Sharon B. of Brownsburg, Indiana are regulars here and say the food is the best and it's hard to find a place in New Orleans this good!
