Guide to Hobby Greenhouse Selection

The SANCTUARY Hobby Greenhouse has been designed to offer the backyard hobbyist the same advantages that commercial growers have. You can enjoy growing high quality plants all year, including your own hydroponic herbs and vegetables, as well as flowers and ornamental plants!

Your SANCTUARY Hobby Greenhouse is much more than just a structure and covering. It comes in a complete package including blueprints, structural materials, covering system, heating, cooling and electrical systems. You'll only need to purchase a few local items to set up your greenhouse and we'll be happy to provide a complete list of those items, on request. And you can even order a complete Hydroponic Growing Package which gives you everything you need to start growing plants hydroponically, without soil.

To order, you only have to make three decisions:

1. Which size greenhouse you want
2. Which heating system you want
3. Which covering system you want.

SIZES
The SANCTUARY Hobby Greenhouse is available as a package, with all the components listed below, in the following popular sizes:

HEATING SYSTEMS
You have your choice of either an LP Gas heating system or a Natural Gas heating system. LP Gas is bottled gas or propane. You will have a tank beside your greenhouse which provides this gas. Natural Gas is for people who are connected to a city supply of natural gas.

COVERING SYSTEMS
- TUFFLITE INFRARED Covering System. This is an excellent covering system, a high-quality, high-tech film designed specifically for greenhouses. It contains an ultraviolet block and is chemical resistant and dust resistant. It also diffuses light, so that the light can get in, around and even under the leaves of plants. The Tufflite system has two layers, with a small air blower that keeps the layers separate by a few inches, creating a "dead air space" which gives excellent insulation. It is extremely strong and will resist even hail stones. And it comes with a 4-year warranty.

- TWINWALL POLYCARBONATE Covering System. This is our very best covering system. It features a twinwall structured sheet that is energy-efficient, providing insulation from heat and cold. It also offers long-term resistance to the effects of Ultra-Violet radiation. It has a 10-year warranty against yellowing and loss of light transmission and a 5-year warranty against breakage due to the effect of weathering and impact of hailstones. It's the same covering used in conservatories and commercial greenhouses.

STANDARD COMPONENTS
Every SANCTUARY Hobby Greenhouse comes with all of the following components included in the package price.
1) Greenhouse Structure
Carefree Garden's greenhouse structures feature high-strength, triple galvanized "structural steel" tubing with 4' arch spacing, ground stakes, couplers, purlins, wind braces, structural connectors, driving head, hardware and blueprints. Also included are 2" x 4" end wall brackets for attaching your end wall studs. And, of course, you get your choice of high quality greenhouse covering systems. (See above.)

2) Entrance Door
Our greenhouse entrance door is steel clad and fully insulated. It comes with a vertical window, aluminum casing, handle and lock set. An optional "full view" glass storm door is also available.

3) Greenhouse Covering
As described above, the hobby greenhouse comes with your choice of either the excellent Tufflite Infrared covering system for the top and end walls (4-year warranty) or our highest quality, Twinwall Polycarbonate material and heavy duty aluminum extruded mounting hardware which provides long life and lasting beauty (10-year Warranty). The Twinwall Polycarbonate is the same material used by commercial growers worldwide.

4) Evaporative Cooling System
A highly efficient "Evaporative Cooling System" is custom-sized to fit your greenhouse. The system hosts a weather resistant two-speed motor, galvanized painted steel cabinet, quiet and efficient blower, adjustable motor pulley, and a high-impact and rust-resistant pump. It is used to cool the greenhouse during the warm periods of the year and provides ventilation capabilities year-round.

5) Motorized Exhaust Louvers
Two motorized exhaust shutters, which are activated either independently or together with the two-stage thermostat provided, allow for warmer greenhouse air to be released during ventilation periods. These shutters also allow for passive cooling when it is too cold outside to use the evaporative cooling system.

6) Heating System
You can use your SANCTUARY greenhouse year-round with this energy-efficient, propeller type gas heater with aluminized steel heat exchanger. This system has a thermal efficiency rating of 80%. Units are electrically ignited and power vented for easy installation. Choose either an LP Gas model or a Natural Gas model. Kit includes the heater hanger with all mounting hardware.
Note: Galvanized vent pipe is not included and must be purchased locally.

7) Pre-wired Electrical Panel
A pre-wired electrical panel makes it a snap to wire your greenhouse and will save you much of the high cost of an electrician's time. It includes interior panel box, relay box breakers, relays, duplex receptacle, mounted on a painted panel board. The environmental controls are mounted and wired in at the factory for you.

8) Environmental Controls
Electronic thermostats with programmable setbacks control the ventilation fan as well as the two speed evaporative cooler and the air intake louvers.

Dutch Growing System
This growing system is ideal for growing tomatoes, cucumbers, beans or peppers. It is the same basic system that commercial hydroponic growers use throughout the world to grow crops without soil. It includes the Dutch growing containers with all the drain lines, plumbing parts, nutrient reservoir, submersible pump and all related materials to complete the system. There are 9 growing containers, each of which are designed to accommodate two large plants. Other plants can be grown in them as well.

NFT Lettuce System
Our NFT (Nutrient Film Technique) system is a 4' X 4' system used for growing lettuce, herbs, and other leaf crops. It contains 5 extruded PVC channels, designed for hydroponic production and precisely the same as those used by commercial growers worldwide! Pre-punched top covers and end caps are provided as well, all designed to fit onto the PVC frame rack provided. The nutrient reservoir is also included with this system.

Ebb & Flow System
Our Ebb & Flow System is designed to grow a variety of hydroponic crops together, in a raised "grow bed". The molded tray (3' x 6') is filled with our Leca Stone, and the nutrient solution is pumped intermittently, on an "ebb & flow" basis, also known as "flood & drain". This system utilizes one of the reservoirs from the Dutch growing system or the NFT system, but has its own pump.

Plant Support System
If you are planning on growing vine crops, such as tomatoes, cucumbers, peppers, beans, etc., you will need to provide support for these plants. Our Plant Support System gives you a good method of accomplishing that. It consists of twisted steel support cable and turnbuckles, which attach to the arches of the greenhouse. You'll use the vine twine and vine clips provided in the Growing Supply Package to fasten your plants to the cables.

Testing and Monitoring Equipment
Equipment for testing and monitoring is important with hydroponic growing. Of course you'll want to know what your temperature and humidity conditions are, so we've included a Min-Max Thermometer and a Certified Hygrometer. You'll also want to test your nutrient solution for its pH "EC" (electrical conductivity), and for its pH. An EC meter and pH kit are included as well. These two simple but accurate test kits will allow you to maintain your nutrient solution in balance for optimum crop health.

Shade Net Package
Shading your hobby greenhouse is important when hot weather comes. We highly recommend using a shading system, even in northern climates during the summer months. Our white shade net is unique to the industry, made of a knitted, "no-tear" fabric, and is the same material used by our commercial growers.

Growing Supply Package
The Growing Supply Package includes: 2 bags of Perlite growing media, 3 pads of rockwool seed cubes, 20 rockwool propagation blocks, 1 Hydro-Gro nutrient A and B mix (50 lb.), 6 seedling trays, 1 vine twine (1,000 ft. roll), 20 Tomahooks, and 100 vine clips.
