Paul D. Bartlett, Sr. Lecture

The Paul D. Bartlett Sr. lecture is scheduled for Thursday, February 5, 2009, at 7:30 p.m. at the Library, and will feature Dr. Charles D. Bailyn, the Thomas E. Donnelley Professor of Astronomy and Physics at Yale University presenting "How to See a Black Hole".

The Linda Hall Lecture Series

The Friends of the Linda Hall Library invite you to attend The Linda Hall Lecture Series - public lectures on contemporary and historical topics in science, engineering, and technology. The lectures are intended to promote the understanding of scientific concepts and research, and ultimately seek to increase the general level of scientific literacy in the community.

In conjunction with our "Locomotion" exhibit, we will discuss Rail, Steam, and Speed by Christopher McGowan, which discusses "The Rocket" and the beginning of steam locomotion as we know it. Darwin's Origin of Species: A Biography - February 12, 2009

To celebrate Charles Darwin's 200th birthday, our One Book event will feature a biography of Darwin's most influential work. Darwin's Origin of Species, written by the eminent Darwin scholar Janet Browne, is a highly readable introduction to one of the most influential scientific theories of all time. The book discussion will be from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. in the library's Main Reading Room. This event is free and open to the public. Reservations are recommended as seating may be limited.
