GIFTS OF LAND

The National Forest Foundation (NFF) welcomes gifts of land for either their trade or their conservation value from both individuals and corporations. Gifts of land that have conservation value will be held in our trust or sold to another organization or government land agency with implicit instructions to protect and preserve that land. Gifts of trade can be vacation homes, undeveloped property, agriculture or industrial land.

Once we receive the land, we have the option to sell it and use the proceeds for our conservation programs. These gifts can offer you significant tax and other financial advantages, while contributing to the stewardship and restoration of National Forest and surrounding lands.

The National Forest Trust
One of the current challenges facing the Forest Service is how to deal with encroaching development and fragmentation threatening the integrity of landscape-level ecosystems surrounding public lands. The NFF has created a National Forest Trust (NFT) to help support communities and the Forest Service in the purchase of important land parcels and conservation easements for biodiversity, habitat protection, and watershed restoration.

The NFF is looking for in-holdings within National Forest boundaries and adjacent private properties. Because of the NFF’s close relationship with the U.S. Forest Service and because the NFF deals specifically with National Forests, we have the potential to better broker the transfer of adjoining private lands than other land trusts.

Gifts of Trade Land
The NFF’s Trade Lands program was established to allow for gifts of land that are not of strategic interest for conservation purposes. They can be investment properties, office buildings, second homes, or other real property that are donated to, and, at the request of the landowner, sold to produce income to benefit the National Forest Trust. The Trust is a restricted fund used to acquire in-holdings or lands of strategic interest to the conservation of National Forests and Grasslands.

If you are interested in donating land to the National Forest Foundation, please call Bill Possiel, President, at 406-542-2805 x11.
