Museums Advocacy Day
February 23–24, 2009
Free registration is required
Visit http://www.speakupformuseums.org

Make your voice one of the first heard in 2009.

Get Involved! Whether you are a student taking your first steps into the museum field or a long-time member, all advocates are needed to raise public awareness about the issues important to museums. During this critical transition period, it is more important than ever to promote the educational and cultural role museums play in shaping our lives. During this 2-day event, you will receive special advocacy training in order to learn how to effectively communicate this value to a new Congress. Then, take the skills you learned and get your issues to the front of the line. AAM’s Government Relations team will arrange meetings for you with your representatives in Congress for you to tell them about your museum and the issues important to the museum field.

Hi everyone

I'm new to the group and was wondering if anyone might have some advice on where to find finacial assistance for going back to school in Museum Studies. I am going to go to grad school after 7 years in preparations and I am in search of any help I can get. If anyone has any thoughts they are appreciated. Thanks

Hey all!
I have an MA in Archaeology, a BA in Anthroology and an AA in General Studies.....should I have a problem finding a decent museum job that does not consist of working in the cafe or gift shop? (Not that there is anything wrong with that!) I am interested in doing exhibit design or set up, behind the scenes lab work, limited curatorial stuff or even admin work but I don't have a museum studies degree....am I doomed?

I have a masters in arts administration and am looking for work in collections management, preferably collections database management.
If anyone knows of any opportunities or a person/institution I could network with I would appreciate it. Thank you.

Sincerely,
Chris
