Welcome to the homepage for an on-going research project focused on the rate and direction of agricultural and life science research at U.S. universities. This three-year (2004-2006) project is funded by grants from the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s National Research Initiative (USDA/NRI) and the National Science Foundation (NSF). It is being carried out by a team of agricultural economists and sociologists at the University of Wisconsin-Madison and the University of Heidelberg.

In early 2005 we surveyed 2,300 agricultural and life scientists at the nation’s land-grant universities. A Summary Report (PDF format, 1.19 MB) of our survey results is now available. At present, we are surveying 4,000 biological scientists at 125 public and private universities. Results from this survey will be available early next year.
