Fare rates increase on Santa Fe - Los Alamos commuter bus service

By Erika L. Martinez

January 5, 2006

Higher fuel costs prompted a $1 increase in fares Laboratory employees and others pay to ride an All Aboard America commuter bus between Santa Fe and Los Alamos.

The new $3 fares were effective Monday. They also apply to the Albuquerque to Santa Fe and Las Vegas to Santa Fe routes. The current $2 fare from Española to Los Alamos remains unchanged.

New Mexico Department of Transportation Secretary Rhonda Faught said the department also recently added two additional commuter buses to the Española to Los Alamos route.

“We are adding buses because of the huge demand for mass transit,” Faught said.

There has been a reported 37 percent increase in ridership of the Northern New Mexico Park-And-Ride within the past year, which averages out to about 400 additional commuters per day, according to a news release from the state agency.

The All Aboard America buses pick up and drop off Laboratory workers at the East Jemez Road and Diamond Drive shuttle bus lot at Technical Area 3 and at Central Avenue and 20th Street in downtown Los Alamos.

Rider fares are $3 each way between Santa Fe and Los Alamos, $2 between Los Alamos and Española and $4 each way between Los Alamos and Albuquerque.
