Division of Animal Industry

The Division of Animal Industry is responsible for the control and eradication of all contagious and infectious diseases of domestic animals and poultry in the state. Conducted through testing, vaccination and regulation of entry of animals and poultry into New Hampshire, the goal is protection of people, livestock and poultry from contamination. An added benefit of disease free animals is stable production costs, which relate directly to the cost of associated food products.

The division is charged with the enforcement of the animal welfare and abuse laws and maintains a diagnostic laboratory at the University of New Hampshire used by veterinarians in the state to identify animal health problems. The state veterinarian, who also serves as deputy commissioner to the department, administers the division.
