April Athletes of the Month

Amber Cronin

Freshman
Buxton, Maine

Cronin was a double winner for the Chargers in both the 400m (1:04.5) and the high jump (1.52 m) at Gordon College in TCCC Invitational action. She set a new school record in the women's high jump, clearing 1.55m, passing the old record of 1.50m set by Stacey Fraser in 2002 when she competed at MIT. At the Eastern Conn. Invitational she qualified for New Englands and posted her qualifying mark in the women's high jump, clearing 1.53m, finishing first. Cronin finished second at the Middlebury Invite in the women's high jump, clearing 1.48m.

Jessy McLavey

Sophomore
Merrimack,N.H.

McLavey competed in Zone Finals after winning her division Championship at Regional finals on March 30th. At Zone finals McLavey competed against the other top seven riders in her division from Regions across Zone 1 which encompasses all of New England (Champions and Reserve Champion riders from each Region in the Zone). McLavey won the Zone Championship and in so doing has qualified to compete at IHSA National Championships May 8-11 in Los Angeles, Cali.

Brian Saad

Senior
Dudley, Mass.

Saad won the discus throw by 9.14m with a toss of 39.62 m, the hammer throw with a toss of 33.45 m, and the shot put with a toss of 12.19 m at the Invitational for The Commonwealth Coast Conference (TCCC) held at Gordon College. At the MIT Coed Invitational, he finished seventh in the discus, reaching 35.71m on his first attempt. Saad finished third in the discus and qualified for New Englands at the Eastern Conn. Invitational, with a throw of 39.29m. He also finished fifth in the shot put with a throw of 12.11m. At the Middlebury Invite, Saad finished sixth in the shot put with a throw of 12.11m and second in the discus throw with a toss of 37.26m.

March Athletes of the Month

Allyson Newell

Senior
Bethlehem, N.H.

Allyson finished ninth in the giant slalom event and second in the slalom event to finish as overall American Champion at the United States Ski and Snowboard Association (USCSA) National Championships. She also became the first Colby-Sawyer skier to compete at the United States Alpine Nationals, held this year at Sugar Loaf Mountain in Carrabassett Valley, Maine. She completes her career at Colby-Sawyer as an 11-time USCSA All-American, the most of any alpine skier in Colby-Sawyer history.

Justin Tardif

Senior
Biddeford, Maine
Justin won five out of seven singles tennis matches in the month of March. He was named The Commonwealth Coast Conference Player of the Week for posting a 3-1 record during the week of March 9th and added three doubles victories on the month.






February Athletes of the Month

Allyson Newell

Senior
Bethlehem, N.H.

Allyson finished in the top ten in all six races in February for Colby-Sawyer's alpine ski racing team. At the Eastern Collegiate Ski Conference (ECSC) Regionals she finished 2nd in slalom and 8th in the giant slalom. In early February Allyson recorded a 1st place finish at the MIT slalom and a 6th place finish the next day in the GS. The following weekend at Ascutney, she finished 4th and 6th in the Boston College slalom events. Allyson helped the Chargers to four first place race finishes, a MacConnell Division championship and a first place finish at regionals in both the giant slalom and slalom. The Charger women finished in first place in every event they skied during February.

Jake Palmer

Senior
East Wakefield, N.H.

Jake placed in the top 15 in five out of his last six races. His best finish came at the Eastern Collegiate Ski Conference (ECSC) Regionals, where he finished 8th in the slalom event. He also recorded an 11th place finish in the giant slalom during ECSC Regionals. In early February Jake placed 10th at the MIT slalom and 14th the following day in giant slalom. The next weekend he finished 36th and 14th at the Boston College slalom events. Jake helped the Chargers to a combined third place finish at ECSC Regionals and two third place finishes in February.


January Athletes of the Month

Noelle Surette

Senior
Buxton, Maine

Noelle joined an elite Colby-Sawyer club when she became only the 10th player in women's basketball history to score 1,000 points in her career when she scored her eighth point of the game versus Eastern Nazarene College. Noelle tied for the team-high in the month of January with 12 points per game and led the team in rebounds (8.7), free throws made (21) and free throw percentage where she was 21-22 (.955). She also chipped in with 10 assists and 11 steals in the month.

Noelle helped the Chargers to a 6-1 record in January and a 5-1 start in The Commonwealth Coast Conference (TCCC) play. The Chargers are currently 13-7 overall and are 6-3 in TCCC.

John DeGray

Junior
Wethersfield, Conn.
DeGray finished first in every individual event he swam in the first three dual meets in the month of January. Against Roger Williams he won the 500 Free, 1000 Free and 100 IM. Versus Gordon, DeGray won the 500 Free and the 1000 Free, and against Regis he finished first in the 500 Free and 1000 Free. Against Wesleyan and Conn College, DeGray posted season best times in 500 Free, finishing 4th against Conn College and 2nd against Wesleyan, and in the 1000 Free he posted a season-best time by 10 seconds.

DeGray helped the Chargers to a 2-3 record in January and will be swimming in the Men's New England Championships Feb. 22-24 at Roger Williams.


December Athletes of the Month

Terri Duffy

Sophomore
Marshfield, Mass.

Duffy led the Chargers in scoring for the month of December with 14.2 points per game and she was third on the team with 6.8 rebounds per game. Duffy had a double-double with 18 points and 14 rebounds in the Chargers win over SUNY Potsdam in the first round of the South Padre Island Shootout and added a season-high five blocks. Duffy scored in double figures five of the six games played in December, was 5-for-7 from three-point land and had 25 points against Springfield before the Holiday break.

The Chargers were 3-3 in December and won the South Padre Island Shootout. The team is currently 7-4 overall.

Duncan Szeliga

Junior
Newmarket, N.H.

Szeliga led the Chargers in December with 19.4 points per game and added 4.8 rebounds per game, good for third on the team. Szeliga had three games of 25-plus points including 31 points in the Chargers win over Case Western Reserve in the third place game at the Tampa Bay Shootout. He was 22-28 from the charity strip for the month shooting 78.6% from the line and shot 55.6% from the field.

The Chargers were 3-2 in December and are currently 5-5 overall.



November Athletes of the Month

Genny Moore

Sophomore
Centerville, Mass.

Moore was named TCCC Player of the Week the last week of the season and helped the Chargers advance to their 11th TCCC Championship match in the past 12 years. Moore was also named second-team all-TCCC and led the Chargers with 11.75 assists per game in November and helped the team to a .224 hitting percentage. She shattered the career mark for assists in a season as she finished with 1342 on the season.

The Chargers were 3-2 in November, and finished as TCCC Runner-up and ECAC NE Runner-up. Overall, the Chargers finished 28-8.

Doug Currie

Junior
Harvard, Mass.

Currie scored a goal in the quarterfinal game of the ECAC Division III New England Tournament. Currie helped the Chargers to the first ECAC bid in the history of the men's soccer program. He was also recognized as second team All-TCCC and finished the season second on the team with 6 goals and 18 points.

The Chargers were 0-1 in November and lost in the ECAC NE Quarterfinals, and finished the season 9-9-2.




October Athletes of the Month

Michelle Doody

Freshman
Franklin, Mass.

Michelle was named The Commonwealth Coast Conference Rookie of the Year and was named first-team all-conference. Doody was also named conference Rookie of the Week and helped the Chargers to the conference championship match in October. Doody broke the record for kills in a season by a freshman and is currently 9th in kills for a season overall. She led the team in kills, kills/gm and serving percentage in October. In two tough TCCC matchups, Doody tallied, 19 kills vs. UNE and 21 kills vs. Endicott. Doody also had a career-high 22 kills in a 5-game win vs. Clarkson and helped the Chargers to a 9-5 record in October.

Tom White

Junior
Lisbon, N.H.
Tom helped the Chargers to their first-ever ECAC tournament appearance by leading the Chargers defense that only allowed 12 goals in 10 October games. White also helped the Chargers to their first TCCC Tournament game win since 2004. The Chargers were 6-4 in October.









September Athletes of the Month

Taylor Forsberg

Junior
Moultonborough, N.H.
Taylor had an excellent month for the Chargers as she was twice named The Commonwealth Coast Conference (TCCC) Libero of the Month and led the Chargers to their 16-1 start and a perfect 5-0 conference record. Forsberg is currently leading the TCCC in digs with 5.6 digs per game and is on pace to break the single season dig mark at Colby-Sawyer as well as the single season digs per game mark. Forsberg is also currently 10th all-time in Digs.





Justin Tardif

Senior
Biddeford, Maine
Justin defeated the Wheaton College No. 1 singles player in the consolation championship of the Wheaton College tennis invitational. Tardiff, a senior, went 2-1 in the tournament to claim the consolation championship.
