NEW LONDON, N.H. The Colby-Sawyer College Athletics Department is pleased to announce the addition of men's and women's cross country to the 16 varsity sports it currently offers for student-athletes.
The teams, which will begin competition at the club level for the 2008-2009 academic year, will begin varsity competition in NCAA Division III and The Commonwealth Coast Conference during the 2009-2010 academic year.
We are extremely excited to add cross country to our list of established varsity sports, said Athletic Director Debi Field-McGrath. Cross country will provide additional opportunities for men and women to excel and run in a spectacular setting."
Nine colleges in The Commonwealth Coast Conference currently offer cross country teams. Colby-Sawyer's teams will compete in fall invitationals, including a conference championship, once the teams are established. The cross country teams will enhance Colby-Sawyer's already established spring track and field program by attracting more distance runners.
This year, students are organizing a co-educational running club, in part to spur interest in the cross country club program that will begin next fall.
Students interested in becoming a Charger Cross Country runner at the club or varsity level, should contact Head Coach Wilson Perez, at (603) 526-3605.
