HUD SECRETARY'S HOUSING AND COMMUNITY DESIGN AWARDS

The Housing and Custom Residential Committee Knowledge Community of The American Institute of Architects (AIA), in conjunction with the Office of the Secretary of Housing and Urban Development, created an awards program to recognize the best in residential housing design.

This award recognizes projects that embrace and demonstrate the revitalizing potential of mixed-use and mixed-income housing developments.

HUD SECRETARY'S AWARD FOR EXCELLENCE IN HISTORIC PRESERVATION

Each year the National Trust for Historic Preservation celebrates the best of preservation by presenting National Preservation Awards to individuals and organizations whose contributions demonstrate outstanding achievements in historic preservation. This year the National Trust and the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) are presenting a new award, the "HUD Secretary's Award for Excellence In Historic Preservation."

The "HUD Secretary's Award for Excellence In Historic Preservation" recognizes organizations and agencies for their success in advancing the goals of historic preservation while providing affordable housing and/or expanded economic opportunities, particularly for low- and moderate-income families and individuals.

2006 recipient - The Midtown Exchange, Minneapolis, Minnesota

2005 recipient - Umpqua Community Development Corporation, Roseburg, Oregon

2004 recipient - Reviviendo Family Housing, Lawrence, Massachusetts

2003 recipient - Ziegler Estate/La Casita Verde Childcare Center, Los Angeles, California

2002 recipient - The Hamilton Hotel, Laredo, Texas

2001 recipient - Famicos Foundation for the Notre Dame Academy, Cleveland, Ohio

2000 recipient - City of Covington, Kentucky Urban Reclamation Program

1999 recipient - Belle Shore Apartments in Chicago

1998 recipient - A.T. Lewis and Rio Grande Lofts in Denver, CO

HUD SECRETARY'S BEST IN AMERICAN LIVING AWARD

The "HUD Secretary's Award for Excellence" program recognizes design excellence produced through cooperative public/private efforts that expand homeownership opportunities for underserved American families.
