Join us on a ramble through the historic old town of Neustadt an der Weinstraße, with its winding alleyways, picturesque half-timbered houses, imaginative fountains, the Gothic Stiftskirche, the historic market place…
A guide will give you an entertaining description of the eventful history of the town, including interesting details about Germany’s clandestine wine capital. A visit to Neustadt would not be complete without sampling a taste of Palatinate wine at the House of Wine – and you may take the tasting glass home with you as a reminder of Neustadt.
11.30 a.m. End of the guided tour of Neustadt old town; time to take lunch or go shopping.
2.00 p.m. – from the entrance to the Hambacher Schloß
Then, as now, the Hambacher Schloß, rising high above the German wine route, stands for liberty, civil rights, national liberty and a “confederated” Europe. Did you know that, as early as 175 years ago, civil-rights activists first bore flags with the colours black, red and gold as “tricolours”?
