Web site linking policy

Linking to the Minnesota DNR Web site

You are welcome and encouraged to link from your Web site to the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources (DNR) Web site. While you are not required to notify the DNR that you are providing a link to the DNR Web site, please consider e-mailing us (webmaster@dnr.state.mn.us) when you create the link; we are interested in the types of sites that link to the DNR.

You may link to the DNR home page or to any subpage within the site. The DNR reserves the right to change the URLs for subpages at any time; it is your responsibility to verify your links to our subpages.

You may not:

  • capture DNR pages within your frames;
  • copy PDF files from the DNR Web site for posting on another Web site without permission;
  • pull graphics from the DNR site without permission; or
  • pull text from the DNR site without attributing the text to the DNR.

Getting a link from the Minnesota DNR Web site to your Web site

The Minnesota DNR will consider links to governmental, educational or nonprofit organization Web sites that contribute relevant, unique and useful information to the existing content on the DNR Web site. The DNR will review the overall content of the Web site requesting a link on the DNR Web site and reserves the right not to link to the site. Selection of the links is based on such factors as:

  • the consistency of updating and maintenance on the site;
  • the reliability of the source of the information;
  • the benefit of the information to DNR customers; and
  • the site's consistency with Web site accessibility guidelines.

Links on the Minnesota DNR Web site in no way indicate an endorsement of or any particular partnership with any organization. The Minnesota DNR is not responsible for the content of any Web site to which it links; this includes updates to or availability of linked sites and the accuracy, reliability or helpfulness of the information on these sites.

The DNR Web site will not link to:

  • corporate, commercial or other for-profit Web sites;
  • political Web sites; or
  • personal or individual Web sites.

Removing Links

The Minnesota DNR reserves the right to remove any link at any time. Situations in which a link will be removed include:

  • the link has gone dead or remains unavailable for a lengthy period;
  • the link no longer points to the original information or resource;
  • the information is inaccurate or unreliable; or
  • the site is no longer consistent with Web site accessibility guidelines.

Reciprocal Links

The Minnesota DNR Web site will not enter into reciprocal link agreements. You are welcome to link to the DNR Web site, but we will not guarantee that we will provide a link to your site from the DNR Web site. Similarly, if the DNR creates a link to your site, you are not obligated to provide a link back to the DNR Web site.
