U.S. Department of Energy Provides Opportunity to Learn About Wildlife at the Nevada Test Site
A spokesperson from the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) National Nuclear Security Administration Nevada Site Office (NNSA/NSO) Environmental Management Program will provide an informative presentation on “Wildlife at the Nevada Test Site,” during the Community Advisory Board (CAB) for Nevada Test Site Programs meeting at 755 East Flamingo Road, Las Vegas, Nevada on November 12, 2008 at 5 p.m.
“The variety of wildlife that calls the Nevada Test Site ‘home’ is simply amazing,” says Lori Plummer, NNSA Environmental Protection Program Manager. “The wildlife is very diverse and includes familiar animals such as the desert tortoise, western burrowing owls, mountain lions, mule deer, and antelope; as well as other little-known species.
NNSA/NSO has an extensive monitoring program to ensure habitat and wildlife are not adversely affected by Nevada Test Site operations.”
The CAB is a federally-chartered DOE advisory board comprised of Southern Nevada residents. CAB members meet bi-monthly to study and discuss environmental activities that take place at the Nevada Test Site and provide recommendations to the DOE Nevada Site Office Environmental Management Program.
