National Emergency Response

The Department of Energy (DOE) National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA) has the world’s leading scientists, engineers, and technicians with more than 50 years of managing the nation’s nuclear weapons program. When the need arises, NNSA is prepared to respond immediately to any type of radiological accident or incident anywhere in the world.

The professional scientists, engineers, pilots, medical personnel, technicians and other leading nuclear experts that comprise the assets use extremely sophisticated laboratories, detection, measuring, and monitoring equipment. NNSA has the best people and technology on hand to carry out its critical mission of protecting people and the environment.

NNSA’s radiological emergency response assets include: Aerial Measuring System (AMS), Atmospheric Release Advisory Capability (ARAC), Accident Response Group (ARG), Federal Radiological Monitoring and Assessment Center (FRMAC), Nuclear Emergency Support Team (NEST), Radiological Assistance Program (RAP), and Radiation Emergency Assistance Center/Training Site (REAC/TS).
