Environmental Restoration

Environmental Restoration photo The U.S. Department of Energy National Nuclear Security Administration Nevada Site Office Environmental Restoration Project performs corrective actions for inactive contaminated sites and facilities where U.S. Department of Energy nuclear tests and weapons experiments were conducted. These areas include the Nevada Test Site and locations on the Nevada Test and Training Range, which includes parts of the Tonopah Test Range.

The mission of the Environmental Restoration Project is to identify the nature and extent of the contamination, determine the risk to the public and the environment, and act to protect or restore natural resources adversely affected by the presence of the contamination. In addition to the corrective action activities, long-term surveillance and monitoring techniques are implemented as necessary to ensure the health and safety of workers, the public, and the environment.
