General

Q. How do I order?

By fax, e-mail, post or telephone, or order online from this website or the bookshop.

To then access any online products you have subscribed for you will need to be registered with the appropriate host. Please see  How to Register for Online Access 


Q. How can I pay?

We have three main payment methods:

1) We take payment against Visa and Mastercard
We require the full card number, expiry date, registered card holders name, address, and the three digit security code shown on the back of the card. Note: we will not charge credit cards until your order is available. 

2) Or by cheque, bank drafts and international money orders
made payable to "CAB International". UK Sterling cheques should be drawn on a UK bank. US dollar cheques should be drawn on a US bank. For book orders (only) in the USA, cheques should be made payable to "Oxford University Press".

3) We also accept payment through bank transfers (charges paid)
direct to CABI's account. When paying by bank transfer it is important to send a copy of the remittance instruction from your bank to our Wallingford office so that we can trace and process your order with minimum delay.

  • UNESCO coupons are accepted.
  • Prepayment is required for all subscription products.
  • Where goods are sent via a forwarding agent, the price paid is that relevant to the country of the end-user and not the delivery address. 
  • For orders placed in the Americas, payment should be made in $US, excluding Canada
    For orders placed elsewhere, payments should be made in Sterling . 

Q. How much is postage and packing?

Printed Abstract Journals
Prices include delivery. Air mail despatch is available at extra cost, please contact customer services for quotations.


Books
For pre-paid orders in the UK,
please add �00 for the 1st book and 80p for each additional book up to �.20 for 10 or more.

For pre-paid orders in Europe, please add �7.50 for the 1st book and �1.5 for each additional book up to �21.00 for 10 or more.

For pre-paid orders from North and Central America, please include US$8.00 shipping and handling for the first book, US$2.00 each book thereafter up to 9 books. For more than 9 contact us for a quote. NC and CA residents, please add sales tax. NC tax is 7%.

For pre-paid orders elsewhere, please add �00 for the 1st book and �00 for each additional book up to a max. of 10. More than 10 contact us for a quote.

Q. What are the shipping arrangements?


Products will be despatched only after full payment has been received. Orders can be sent by special delivery methods, please contact us.


Printed Abstract Journals
Most deliveries outside the UK are by Air Speeded Post (sent by air to your country and then by national postal service within the country). 

Books
Approximate delivery times:

  • UK  up to 5 working days
  • Europe 3-4 weeks
  • Rest of the World 4-6 weeks

UK/EU: Books of less than 1 kilo are sent by standard 2nd class mail in the UK and EU, and orders over 1 kilo are sent by secured delivery.
Rest of world: Books are sent by Air Speeded Post, then travel via the national postal service.

 

CD-ROM
Where possible deliveries outside the UK are by Printflow Airsaver, which provides a service to most countries. Customers requiring express delivery by airmail please ask for a quotation. We are happy to make deliveries to consolidation addresses but require the full name and address of the end user before fulfilment can begin. 


Q. What about VAT?  

Customers in the UK:
VAT is not charged on books or printed journals. VAT at the current rate (15% in the UK as at 1st December 2008) is payable on all electronic products. Packages carry a 5.19% VAT rate.

Customers within the EU:
VAT is payable at the UK rate appropriate at the point of invoicing (VAT is 15% in the UK as at 1st December 2008). To avoid this tax EU customers must supply us with their VAT (BTM/MWST/IVA/MOMS/FPA/MWS/ALV/MOM/TAV) number at the time of ordering.

Customers outside the EU:
Do not to pay VAT.


Q. What happens if the item is not available?

As we process your order we will inform you if any item is unavailable. Please note that we do not charge credit cards until stock is available.


Q. Who qualifies to receive discounts?

CAB International is an intergovernmental organization owned by its member countries. Subscribers based in CABI member countries may be entitled to special reduced rates (listed on the product price pages). Please click here for a list of Member Countries. 

Personal subscriptions, listed on the product pages, are available at a discounted rate from the institutional rate. Personal subscriptions MUST be delivered to a private address and the purchaser must make a declaration that the subscription is solely for personal use.

Q. How can I get onto your mailing list?

Books

Q. How can I arrange to be sent an inspection/review copy of a particular book? 

Subject to consideration, we send out books for review in any relevant publication. To request a review copy please contact l.rock@cabi.org or marketing via the Wallingford contact details.
Requests from North and Central America should be sent to Laura Ikwild at Oxford University Press.

Up to 3 different inspection copies may be sent, subject to our discretion, to any institution thinking of recommending the text for adoption as a course text for purchase by students and colleagues.

Q. What is your returns policy?

Individual
  • Full right of return within 28 days of invoice date
  • Goods must be in a resaleable condition
  • Postage is to be paid by the customer
Booksellers
  • Goods must be returned in a resaleable condition
  • Invoice date must be less than 12 months, but more than three months old
  • Invoice number and date must be supplied otherwise a surcharge will be made
  • Postage is to be paid by the customer

Q. How do I claim a discount on my book order using the 3 letter codes on leaflets?

When purchasing through the online bookshop, if appropriate, a message will be displayed saying an item is eligible for discount and  you will be able to enter the 3 letter code you have into a box on screen. If ordering by email, telephone or post please quote the code clearly and the discount will be deducted. When a code on a leaflet is longer, please quote the first 3 letters. 


Subscriptions (Abstract Journals/Online Databases/CD-ROMs)

Q. When do Subscriptions run to/from?

Subscriptions for all abstract journals and any other CABI products not mentioned above are for one calendar year (January to December) and expire on 31st December each year regardless of start date.
For print subscriptions paid mid-year all issues published previously in that year are supplied.
For online subscription fees are applied from date of purchase for 12 months.

Please note
Printed abstract journals will be despatched only after full payment has been received. Renewal of your subscription by 30th November will ensure uninterrupted supply of January to December subscriptions.

Multiple year abstract journal subscriptions
Multiple year subscriptions from 2 years are available at favourable rates. Please request a quote from sales@cabi.org


Q. How is access controlled to online subscriptions?

On all online products, you can control access via your IP address &/or a username and password. If you require IP address control you will need to know the IP address ranges that cover your site. To find the IP address of your PC, please use our IP address checker. If you do not know the full ranges then please consult your network manager.

Please note: if after registering you experience problems accessing your subscriptions we may not have the full IP addresses of your institution. If you are off-campus or at home please contact your library or journals manager to find out how to access electronic resources from home. If you are a librarian and you wish to set up off-campus access please go to Update Registration and add a username and password to your account.

Q. What are the guidelines surrounding claims?

Claims must be made within 6 months of the product despatch date and will be considered on their own merit. 
Any damage or shortage should be notified to CABI within 3 days of receipt of the goods for a claim to be made.
(Please check the proper despatch date with customer services before claiming. Replacement copies supplied after this date will be chargeable.) 
Refunds will not be given on orders once journals have been despatched. 
No responsibility is accepted for goods once despatched.


Q. Are back volumes available?

Back volumes for most printed CABI journals are available from 2003 onwards. All 2005 and prior journals are only available as complete volumes. Prices are calculated as follows:

2003 back volumes - 2003 list price
2004 back volumes - 2004 list price
2003 back volumes - 2003 list price
1997-2002 back volumes - 25% off 2005 price
1992-1996 back volumes - 50% off 2005 price
1991 and earlier back volumes - 75% off 2005 price

Q. Can I have a sample copy of a journal?

Sample copies from our print abstract journals are freely available for downloading in Adobe Acrobat� PDF format. They can be found on the relevant journal information page. If you are unable to view such files please request a sample copy from orders@cabi.org or alternatively contact the nearest CABI order/enquiry office. 


Q. Who do I contact with CD-ROM Enquiries?

All enquiries should be directed to the Sales Support Manager at Wallingford or Email: cd-rom@cabi.org except those SilverPlatter CD-ROMs (denoted by the SilverPlatter logo and now distributed by Ovid) which should be sent directly to Ovid.
