CABI Southeast and East Asia - China

CABI Southeast and East Asia – China was launched on 13 May 2002. Since then, it has played important roles in formulating CABI’s strategies and programmes in China, and co-ordinating, facilitating and/or implementing CABI's activities and projects related to China.

Our history

Over the past two decades, CABI has collaborated with a large number of Chinese governmental agencies, research and training institutions in information/publishing, biological control, IPM, white agriculture, conservation of biodiversity, taxonomy and collection of fungi and insects and control of invasive species, etc. After joint efforts, China became a Member Country of CABI in 1995.  

 

The core areas of focus at CABI Southest and East Asia - China are:

 biological control

 IPM

 IAS

 information management and dissemination

 plant nutrition

Our activities

  • To develop productive and strategic partnerships with national programmes
  • To liaise with the Ministry of Agriculture, Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences and other related organizations including governmental departments and agencies, research and training institutions, private sector and non-governmental agencies
  • To develop and co-ordinate collaborative projects with Chinese partners
  • To identify and seek opportunities for collaboration in scientific, publishing/information and development programmes
  • To identify and assess the needs for CABI's scientific and information products and services 
  •  To promote the marketing and sales of CABI products and services
  • To assist in, or organize, in-country training courses/workshop/seminars in both scientific and information areas

Our Future Plans

 To strengthen strategic relations between China and CABI, facilitating the development of high-level framework, dialogue and programmes addressing priority needs of China and mechanism of working together 

 To facilitate content and publishing partnerships to populate and enhance the breadth and depth of CABI information products, and further collaboration in information access, management and dissemination

 To develop mutually beneficial partnerships, and programmatic collaboration in the prevention and management of alien invasive species, knowledge for development and Integrated Pest Management (IPM) capacity building and technology transfer etc, including evaluating the feasibility of establishing a joint research base, i.e. a joint lab/programme with CAAS        

 To develop partnerships in agro-biodiversity, conservation and utilization of microbial resources, sanitary/phytosanitary systems (SPS) and business and product development from the microbial resources (e.g. bio-pesticides)
