Migratory Fish

The U.S. Fish and Wildlife is responsible for assisting in the protection and restoration of migratory fish in North Carolina. Including:

  • American shad (Alosa sapidissima)
  • Hickory shad (Alosa mediocris)
  • Blueback herring (Alosa aestivalis)
  • Alewife (Alosa pseudoharengus)
  • Striped bass (Morone saxatilis)
  • Atlantic sturgeon (Acipenser oxyrhynchus oxyrinchus)
  • Shortnose sturgeon (Acipenser brevirostrum)
  • American eel (Anguilla rostrata)
