Resource Conservation & Development Information

Kansas map showing RC&D areasMany Kansas rural communities find it difficult to locate and acquire funds and other resources to improve the quality of life for their citizens. Opportunities are available to support this endeavor through the USDA's Resource Conservation and Development Program (RC&D).  RC&D works through a council of local citizens and USDA staff to find resources to benefit rural communities, and through twelve RC&D councils, NRCS helps coordinate interagency projects to improve environmental, social, and economic conditions throughout the State.

RC&D's purposes are:

  • To promote conservation, development, and use of natural resources
  • To improve the general level of economic activity
  • To enhance the environment and standard of living in communities

In Kansas, 93 counties are in authorized or pending RC&D areas.
