This year, for our 5th Annual Photo Contest, we received nearly 7,500 photographs in five categories—Americana, The Natural World, People, Altered Images, Travel. From this wealth of images, our panel of Smithsonian judges spent many hours carefully reviewing the submissions, which came from all 50 states and 82 countries. On April 1st, we revealed our 50 finalists. This year, visitors to our Web site chose the first ever Readers' Choice winner.

We now reveal our Grand Prize Winner, Category Winners, and Readers' Choice Winner here and in our July 2008 issue.

The photographs of the seven winners and select finalists will be on exhibit in Eyes on the World: Smithsonian Magazine Photo Contest from July 1, 2008 through January 15, 2009 in the first floor of the Smithsonian "Castle" on the National Mall in Washington DC.

Category Winners and the Readers' Choice Winner receive $500. The Grand Prize Winner receives a four-day, three-night Smithsonian Journeys Grand Canyon Weekend Adventure for two from July 11-14, 2008, or the cash equivalent.
