Dear Fellow Parents:
Welcome to the Purdue University Family!
Your student is embarking not only on an exciting academic and intellectual time in life, but also taking an important step on the journey of responsible adulthood. The next few years will have a profound impact on everything that follows. All of us at Purdue pledge to provide both support and challenge to make this learning and maturing experience one of opportunity and accomplishment for your student.
If this is your first son or daughter to attend Purdue University, you no doubt have many questions about the next few years. Because you will continue to be an important source of information and support for your student, my colleagues and I are providing you with this handbook to ensure that you have the information you need to give accurate and timely advice and referral to your student. You both can be assured that there are numerous services and hundreds of staff on campus dedicated to student support and success.
Through the experiences I have had with my own two daughters, as well as in my professional life in higher education, I know that parents who actively encourage their students to engage in University life and take full advantage of available assistance, services, programs, and opportunities are the most likely to be rewarded by seeing their young adults reach their goals. I encourage you to use this publication as a guide for how you can support your child throughout his or her Purdue education.
My colleagues and I look forward to partnering with you to support your student’s Purdue experience. Together, we will build a solid foundation for success that will bring lifelong rewards.
Hail Purdue!
