Research Position Evaluation Staff

Mission and Functions

The mission of the Research Position Evaluation (RPE) Staff is to centrally administer the nationwide ARS Research Position Evaluation System (RPES). The Staff's principal functions include:

  • policy development
  • staff support to the ARS Associate Administrator for Research Operations and Management on panel-related matters
  • staff support to the RPES Advisory Committee
  • advice and assistance to panelists, Chairs, scientists, Research Leaders, other research managers, and Area Directors
  • Research Position Evaluation Committee (RPEC) management
  • training of panelists, Chairs and Personnel Representatives
  • schedule management (development, modification and implementation)
  • case management (notification, monitoring, review and distribution)
  • panel logistics
  • program analysis and evaluation
  • internal and external information, and
  • RPES program account management.

  • Pat Humphrey Classification Assistant, responsible for panel administration in Zone II (Midwest Area, Northern Plains Area, Southern Plains Area and Pacific West Area) (telephone 301.504.1565)
  • Wendy Hatcher Classification Assistant, responsible for travel vouchers and general operations support (telephone 301.504.1562)
