Computing & Networking |
Support: Cathy Burgdorf
Services terminate Saturday 14 August 2004 |
The project has contracted a DHCP Ethernet network connected to the Internet through a dedicated T-1 (1.544 Mbps) for the duration of stay in Portsmouth. IP addresses will be assigned to hosts dynamically from a dedicated Class C subnet in a non NOAA public domain. Static IPs may be requested. A firewall will be in place for this subnet. It's configuration limits traffic coming in, and allows typical services (i.e. ftp, http, ssh) going out. Specific service requests should be directed to project Computing & Networking support. Contact local network administrators regarding necessary service requirements for access through organizational firewalls.
A network device is any device connected to the net (i.e. computer, printer). For each network device identified, a twisted pair cable with a RJ-45 connector is supplied. All other hardware required to connect and operate network devices is the responsibility of the participant. (NOTE to DSRC users: PLEASE DO NOT remove any cable or hubs from your office or lab.)
The project will provide one networked black & white HP LaserJet and one color Tektronix Phaser printers for general use.
The project will maintain a local print and file server. This server will not be accessible from outside the NOAA office space at Portsmouth, and data will not be backed up. If either is required, please utilize external resources.
Any computer connected to the network must have current virus protection software and OS patches and updates. The project Computing & Networking support must have or be given administrator access on any machine that will remain connected to the network unattended at any time. Participants may find further network and resource details on site.
