About the Center

The Schwartz Tennis Center, which was completed in December 2006, is Purdue University’s first indoor tennis center. Named for the lead donors, Dennis J. and Mary Lou Schwartz, the facility provides the Purdue and Tippecanoe County communities with state-of-the-art, modern tennis courts in an upscale setting.

Dennis Schwartz, from Mishawaka, Indiana, graduated from Purdue in 1963 with a bachelor's degree in industrial engineering. He is a retired banking executive and is active in the Elkhart, Indiana family business, Dehco/Cast Products/TriStart Distributing. Schwartz pledged nearly half the money needed for the $7.2 million facility in the memory of his wife, Mary Lou, a devoted tennis player who died in 2002.
