Daylilies are not only pretty to look at, they are often pleasantly fragrant. The L. Ernest Plouf Consistently Fragrant Hemerocallis Award is given annually to the (you guessed it) "best consistently very fragrant" daylily cultivar capable of growing in most parts of the country. The winner must have received an Honorable Mention Award and a given cultivar may win only once. A prize of $500 is given to the hybridizer. Fifteen award-winning cultivars are illustrated here.
Summary of all Award categories:
The Stout Medal is the
highest award given by the American Hemerocallis Society. The Donn Fischer Memorial Cup
is awarded to the outstanding miniature flower that measures 3½" across or less.
The Lenington All-American Award is given to
that daylily which performs well in all parts of the country. The Ida Munson Award
is awarded to the best double flowered daylily. The Harris Olson Spider Award
is given to the best spider type flower, having a petal that is at least five times
as long as it is wide. The L. Ernest Plouf Consistently Fragrant Hemerocallis Award
