> Senior Health Resources
Demographically, our society is getting older.
This shift will reach its peak in 2030, when there will be as many
persons over age 65 as persons under 18. Senior health care needs
are enormous and will account for over half of all health care expenditures
early in the 21st century. The health care needs of our senior citizens
is of particular concern in California, where more than 3.5 million
senior citizens live. By 2010, that number will grow to 5 million
and to more than 7 million by 2020.
The University of California is addressing this challenge through
a broad effort to increase the training of health professionals,
research, and health care treatment and disease prevention programs.
Academic Geriatric Resource Centers
UC's Academic
Geriatric Resource Program develops, implements and evaluates
programs to educate and train health care providers in disciplines
that care for older persons, and advance public service and research
in this area. Visit the program's web pages on various Senior
Health Topics (includes video clips).
